On April 19, several VHB leaders and Northeastern University Co-op students attended a reception at NU’s Snell Engineering Center in Boston to celebrate our long-term impact and distribute scholarships to two students who received the VHB Founders Scholarship.
During the reception, J.F. Hajjar, Chair of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, highlighted VHB’s longstanding relationship with Northeastern University, dating back to the early 1980s when we welcomed our first Northeastern Co-op student. Since then, more than 400 students have completed Co-ops at VHB! Bill Roache and John Kennedy, VHB Co-founders, were recognized for their significant contributions to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, including their service on the Department’s Industrial Advisory Board.
Two NU College of Civil and Environmental Engineering students, Andrew Kleiner and Thalia Christoforatos, each received a $10,000 scholarship in memory of John Kennedy. John’s daughter, Kathy Kennedy Khazai, was in attendance to honor her father’s legacy. Starting next year, two additional scholarships will be awarded annually in honor of Bill Roache. VHB’s Founders Scholarships are the Department’s largest scholarship awards.

More About VHB’s Founders Scholarships
In 2024, during our inaugural Generational Company Day, President & CEO Mike Carragher announced the establishment of scholarships honoring VHB’s founders—Rich Hangen, Bob Brustlin, Bill Roache, and John Kennedy—at their alma maters: The University of Delaware, Brown University, and Northeastern University. The scholarships will be awarded based on financial need to sophomores, juniors, or seniors focusing their careers on the built environment.
